What to bring
Less than you think, because we have hot showers, flush toilets, a laundromat, a general store, ice, and a restaurant on site. What you can't buy from us is a tent that survives a Black Hills thunderstorm.
Bring these:
- Real stakes. The wire stakes in the bag are useless here. Ground is hard, wind comes off the plains fast, and August storms arrive sideways with no warning.
- A rain fly you've actually tested.
- Layers. It can hit 100 during the day and drop into the 50s overnight. People pack for one of those and regret it.
- Sun protection. There's almost no shade. The sunburn happens on day one.
- Earplugs. Cheap, tiny, and the single best thing you can put in your saddlebag.
Some tent sites have electric available — ask when you book if you need it for a CPAP or a fan. Picnic tables and Wi-Fi come with the site.
Don't bring firewood from home. South Dakota has restrictions on transporting it because of invasive pests, and you can buy it here.
